It's spring break, and Tamara Winters would rather stay on campus and read romance novels than flaunt her size-fourteen body on a beach. But her best friend, Ronni, has other ideas. Against her wishes, Tamara is whisked away to picturesque Maverick Bay, where she's wrangled into waiting tables with Ronni at the Shore Shack for its busy week leading to Maverick's Surf Invitational. There she meets fellow schoolmate Xavier Solomon, the Invitational's organizer and campus womanizer by reputation. From the moment Tamara sees him emerging from the waves like a hero in of one of her romance novels, all she wants to do is run away from the feelings he inspires in her.
Little does she know Xavier has been watching her for weeks now. In fact, after failed attempts at asking her out on campus, he's concocted a crazy plan: fabricating romantic situations straight out of her favorite books. Xavier quickly realizes that if Tamara gets a whiff of his designs, he might as well spell CREEPER across his forehead. Yet as they grow closer, he's convinced it's a risk worth taking. What he hasn't planned on, of course, is his drug-addicted, alcoholic stepbrother, who decides to join the fun and put a wrench in Xavier’s scheme.
Spring break is proving hotter than Tamara expected. Will her romance novels be able to compete? (via Goodreads)
I just read two heavy books so I really needed a breather. Good thing I was scheduled for this book tour.
I finished this in one sitting because well, it's really light and funny. It's one of those books that you can read over and over again because you'll never get tired of it.
Tamara was such a bookworm. Although the term bookworm has a different meaning for her. I gotta admit that even if I'm a bookworm, I still have a social life. Bet even you have! At first, I find it funny and somehow silly for her to be like that. Then I learned what made her be that kind of bookworm. It totally made sense in a way. Although it's not really much of an excuse. But I guess it's a good thing that she was that kind of bookworm. Or else Xavier wouldn't have noticed her!
What Xavier planned really was crazy. And if that happens in real life, my goodness, the girl is totally lucky! Xavier was really sweet. I mean, for a guy to actually go through all that plan was really surreal and even if it do sound so stupid, he still did it. I actually felt that he was that smitten by Tamara so what's not to try right? Especially that was the only way she can notice him.
So it wasn't really a surprise that Tamara immediately fell for him. IN JUST A WEEK. So yes, it's obviously an insta-love even if Xavier has been crushing her for a long time already. But with Tamara, the first time she saw him was totally a bookworm's reaction. I actually thought that because she reads too much, she had sort-of developed those heroine's reaction when she sees some hot guy. Tamara actually admit that one. She never thought that a guy could make her swoon just like what she read in the books.
Everything that happened between Tamara and Xavier felt refreshing and really nice. Even if it was insta-love, it felt surreal. There were some problems which were met on the way but they weren't that heavily written. So it's still a light read! And the beach was a nice setting too. Totally nice summer read.
As much as I enjoyed reading this book, it let me down in a way. It kind of felt flat almost throughout until the latter part. I'm not saying that nothing really happened! It's just that, it really felt flat. Nothing BIG really happened in the middle for me to expect the ending. Or maybe because I already know what's gonna happen. But anyway, I still enjoyed it.
Romancing the Bookworm is a really nice summer read for everyone! It won't totally disappoint you even if you'll be looking for more. Well, I guess Xavier will be enough already. ;)

About the Author
When Kate Evangelista was told she had a knack for writing stories, she did the next best thing: entered medical school. After realizing she wasn't going to be the next Doogie Howser, M.D., Kate wandered into the Literature department of her university and never looked back. Today, she is in possession of a piece of paper that says to the world she owns a Literature degree. To make matters worse, she took Master's courses in creative writing. In the end, she realized to be a writer, none of what she had mattered. What really mattered? Writing. Plain and simple, honest to God, sitting in front of her computer, writing.
