One kiss could be the last

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.
But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world. (via Goodreads)

JLA Fans PH and Louisse of The Soul Sisters lend me an ARC of this through Pinoy Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This however did not influence my opinion of the book or of the author in any way.

Jennifer Armentrout definitely set her standards much higher with White Hot Kiss. Given that I've only read Obsidian, how will I now read her books published between the latter and the former? I enjoyed and liked Obsidian but I devoured White Hot Kiss.

It's been a month since I read it and I haven't really recovered from the ending. Maybe I know that was coming but still. The girl can dream of an alternate ending, right? If I can only tell you what happened and we can all gush about it. Good thing, Kazhy of My Library in the Making was reading it too. (Oh, hey visit her blog. Her stop is today too.) So I was able to rant with a friend of how emotional I was at the end of the novel. I kept on telling myself, 'No. No. No. You did not, Jennifer.' But the novel was written already and I cannot do anything about it. *inhales deeply*

What am I supposed to say here anyway? Yeah, two hot guys were involved. (I know. It's impossible not to love a novel when a hot guy is involved. What more when there are two, right?) Technically, they're not guys. One was a Warden (a gargoyle) and the other was a demon. How can someone possibly make gargoyles and demons hot as hell? Well, Jennifer did. I'm not a fan of gargoyles but with Zayne present, I found myself smiling like a fool. He was sweet and irritating at the same time. I almost went to Zayne's side but with Roth being there, a fine line was drawn. Roth made me feel that Zayne was the best friend/brother material. Holy hell. How can I be honestly loving Roth? If my Mom knew that I'm so much crushing a demon (even though it's fictional), she'd probably throw me something. But how on Earth can I not love Roth? Tell me you don't and we'd probably argue. Kidding. Lol Roth had his own charming ways that will absolutely make a girl's knees jelly-like. A lot of times, I wanted to just curl up in my bed and think about him. Uhuh, he IS that swoony. Oh, did I mention that he gardens and takes care of pet animals too? So yeah. No more descriptions and explanations needed. If Zayne kept me smiling like a fool, Roth made me see stars and even the whole universe.

Of course it wasn't just about those two that made me love WHK. Its story was fascinating. It was scary to think that demons were literally living on the same space as you do. Though you do not recognize them. There were different types of demons and you'd have to be careful on who not to piss off. Then there are the Wardens who are like these secret agents who were trying to wipe off the demons living in the human world. See? How can this world not be interesting? Add to that the twists and turns invovled that will make your head pound.

Well, I won't forget to mention the female MC. Being half-demon and half-Warden, Layla was special but it came with complications. I don't really know how to describe Layla. One minute, she was very intellectual. Next minute, she was very naive and stupid. Though I think it had to do with her reality that she was born of the two contrasting worlds. That's why she was very confused and undecisive most of the time. Yet I loved her just all the same. She was a typical female MC for me. Though I'd have to say that she was very brave and strong. There were moments when I swear she just really did something reckless yet admirable.

This has been getting so long already. I'd just say that I loved the moments when Layla and Roth were together. Totally swoony.

Hold on. I got to say this. I actually love how the good and the bad were portray in here. It was clear-cut. I don't know with you guys. But I felt that Jennifer was a little of a soul-writer with this one.

White Hot Kiss is a hot gift from hell. Drool-worthy sexy guys and an unforgettable ending that will leave you hanging.

Eeep I'm mentioned! *hair flip* HAHAHA Anyway, Layla is typical JLA heroine. She's just so similar to Katy from the Lux series! And now I'm comparing Roth to Daemon but no, I refuse to decide who's better between them >_<
