SIMPLIFY.
SIMPLIFY.
Ashley Price doesn’t have much in life after being bullied so hard she had to leave her old school to live with her aunt and uncle in Pittsburgh. But the camera she borrowed from her best friend and secret crush Brendan, and her off the charts math abilities, make things a lot more bearable. Plus, since Brendan is the captain, making the school Mathletes team should be easy.
But when gorgeous new girl Sofia rolls in and steals Brendan, Ashley's place on the team, and her fragile foothold on the Mansfield Park Prep social totem pole, it’s on. Sofia is everything Ashley left her old school to escape. The only thing Ashley didn’t count on is Sofia’s sexy twin brother Vincent.
Vincent is not only the hottest boy in school, he’s charming, sweet, and he’s got his eye on Ashley. He’s also not taking no for an answer. There's no real reason Ashley shouldn't like Vincent, but with the battle lines being drawn between her and Sofia, Ashley’s not sure which side he’s on. Or which side she wants him to be on.
She does know Sofia is trouble with a capital T, and she’s determined to make Brendan see it.
SOLVING FOR EX is a YA contemporary romance that remixes Mansfield Park as Clueless meets Mean Girls in a crazy mix of high school society, mathletic competition, and teenage romance. (via Goodreads)

Note to self: Never read in a public place. Especially if you feel that the book will give you a lot of feels. I kept smiling like an idiot while I was reading Solving For Ex. I was at the library and I was pretty sure the student beside me thought I was weird. My smile was from ear-to-ear. How can I not smile when I feel so swoony and all?
It was pretty obvious that Ashley was head over heels in love with Brendan. Sad thing was her best friend doesn't recognize it. When Sofia and her twin, Vincent made their way into their school, everything turned upside down for Ashley. Her only best friend was interested in another girl, an unexpectedly cute guy kept on pursuing her, girls gave her death stares and just like that, she felt that history was repeating itself all over again. She left her old school with a rumor that destroyed her as a person. I hate bullying. It was pretty much evident here how bullying can totally affect one's life. To the point that the person decided to live in another place. Yes, that kind of bullying. I don't blame Ashley for not standing up for herself. It was useless anyway. I admire her for having the courage to start anew in a place where no one else knows her. Good thing Brendan was there.
You know how badly I want Ashley to end up with Brendan and yet I love Vincent more? Uhuh, so ironic. I fell for Vincent's charms, my dear friends. The things he did for Ashley were beyond sweet. I totally felt how sincere he was with Ashley. Or not. Maybe hes was or he wasn't. The thing was, his loyalty wasn't where I thought it was. Because I love Vincent so much, I even rolled my eyes at Ashley for being such a bitch to him in a way. One minute, she was willing to give it a chance. Next minute, she'll realize that she only loved Brendan. She was totally incoherent with her own feelings and decisions. I wasn't only frustrated with Ashley, Brendan had his part too. I knew he liked Ashley but he was being this asshole since he saw how Vincent was treating Ashley. I particularly hated how he allowed Sofia to go with him during his breakfast with Ashley. I was beyond disappointed and hurt. I'm that affected. Seriously, they both liked each other and why can't just they say it right? They had this war they both know won't last long because deep inside, they both knew they liked each other. They were just afraid to admit it.
You guise. I cannot tell you how much I love the mathematical notes here. I smiled and laughed with each one. Pretty cute and just adorably nerdy. Even with Ashley's mathematical prowess. I was amazed as to how smooth she was with equations. Mathematics was such a big bonus for me.
I knew something was up but I was in denial. Yet the inevitable came. I somehow felt that some things happened at a wrong pace. I practically loved the novel till around 83%. It was like it was supposed to happen so that the ending will be this one and not that one. It felt forced on me in a way. Though there were clues as to the big happening in the end, I didn't feel how genuine it was. Oh and the ending. I literally stopped reading because I cannot believe it jumped to that moment immediately. I got my wish but I didn't want it to happen that way. It totally felt unreal to me and not utterly smooth. I wish I can just say the ending but that's not fair. So read this now?
I was torn between 3 stars and 4 stars but then I realized how much geeky this was and how it made me smile and laugh a lot. Despite me not liking how things happened at the end, I absolutely enjoyed every bit of this novel. No kidding. I can still feel my smile right now just remembering how cute it was.
Needless to say, Solving For Ex is the cutest-funniest-nerdiest-swooniest YA novel I've ever read to date. The geekiness, the humor, the swoon, the Math. Total YA package.

About the Author
Raised on comic books and classic novels, Leigh Ann developed an early love of science fiction and literature. As an adult, she rediscovered her love for not only reading, but also writing the types of fiction that enchanted her as a teen. Solving for Ex was born of her love for Jane Austen’s classics, and how they taught her that love stories could be funny and wickedly smart.
Leigh Ann, her husband, and four children live in Columbus, Ohio. When she’s not immersed in the world of fiction, you can find her obsessing over the latest superhero movie or using her kids as an excuse to go out for ice cream (again.)
