Sixteen-year-old physics nerd Aysel is obsessed with plotting her own death. With a mother who can barely look at her without wincing, classmates who whisper behind her back, and a father whose violent crime rocked her small town, Aysel is ready to turn her potential energy into nothingness.

There’s only one problem: she’s not sure she has the courage to do it alone. But once she discovers a website with a section called Suicide Partners, Aysel’s convinced she’s found her solution: a teen boy with the username FrozenRobot (aka Roman) who’s haunted by a family tragedy is looking for a partner.

Even though Aysel and Roman have nothing in common, they slowly start to fill in each other’s broken lives. But as their suicide pact becomes more concrete, Aysel begins to question whether she really wants to go through with it. Ultimately, she must choose between wanting to die or trying to convince Roman to live so they can discover the potential of their energy together. Except that Roman may not be so easy to convince.

My Heart and Other Black Holes made me cry more than I can ever count. There were moments when I had to stop reading, look at the ceiling and just cry. Oh, the power of Jasmine's words.

The story of Aysel and Roman was sad, happy, heartbreaking, funny, stressful, hopeful, and realistic. It surely was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Because in the real world, that's how it is.  They have different pasts and yet they want one future: to die. So they looked for a suicide partner, found each other, and decided to do it together.

Aysel and Roman were the opposites. The only thing that connects them is their goal. It sounds scary, cruel and even sadistic. Who would want to encourage someone to die? To end his/her own life with you? But the truth is, you wouldn't know. We wouldn't know. Unless we're in that situation. Unless we have depression. Unless we have suicidal tendencies. Yet Jasmine made sure that the story will make readers understand more about the topic without losing the idea that the characters are in fact, just two teenagers. Just regular teenagers who happen to have it.

Aysel was such a Physics nerd and a classical music lover. I really enjoyed all of her existential questions about her potential energy, her gravity, her black holes and everything about Physics. On the other hand, Roman was definitely that cute guy you just have a crush on, an athlete and has a turtle pet! See? Total opposites, right?

I love this novel. Every bit of it. Its representation of depression, how things are affected, what happens when someone has it, everything surrounding it. It clearly gave the readers a look at the inside. In the end, it wasn't just love that triumphed. It was hope, faith, and trust as well.

I'm so thankful to Jasmine for being brave enough to write this novel that tackles the issue of mental health. It's not everyday that you come across a book that depicts such real-life issues. Her writing style definitely made the story even more beautiful.

My Heart and Other Black Holes is a great eye-opener for everyone. It is cringe-worthy, but in a good way. Ready your heart when you decide to read this, and I do hope you read this one.
