I grab her exploring finger just as it reaches my happy trail—a trail that if I let her wander down further will lead us to do things we can’t take back. Things like three-word phrases being confessed that would end me if I was rejected. Things like selfishly wanting to own her body and doing things to her that would make my fantasies blush. And things like making her promises too soon that won’t do either of us any good. She makes me want a future that’s not possible, and one I don’t deserve.
Listening to my ego got me into this situation. Will listening to my heart get me out? (via Goodreads)
Wow. Just wow. The blurb of this book is absolutely far by the one that fooled me the most. No kidding. Not to mention the cover too! I thought I was only up for some hot guy in a nice beach for a summer fling! I already assumed there will be steamy hot scenes but that's an understatement. Really.
It's obvious how Mallory and Evan fell in love at first sight. But what is so addictive to it is the fact that they really have chemistry and really made me feel like they were totally in love. That love at first sight is actually possible. Yes, that convincing. Although at some point, I felt like their love was only because of their cravings for each other's bodies. Also, those two are the most impulsive characters. Ever. I swear. But I kept on thinking that their impulsiveness has something to do with the fact that it's summer and their time is ticking.
I would have absolutely love this if not for the formulaic plot. I'm so sorry. But as much as I enjoyed it, I have to be honest that I'm getting tired of two people who are sort-of broken that they cannot figure out where they stand in each other's life. Add to that the family not liking the other party. It's just so cliche.
I shall not forget to mention the minor characters. Mallory's best friend, Sunny. Evan's best buds Murphy and Zach and his sister Kate. They are the friends anyone would want to have. Their characterizations were that nice. It's like they were the ones who made Evan and Mallory work together. Who wouldn't love friends like that?
Despite the cliches, I actually enjoyed it. Maybe because of the Hawaiin feel. Or really, it's because of S. L. Scott's writing. It. Is. Totally. Addictive.
It just breaks my heart to know that there will be sequels. And there is the big possibility that there will be a love triangle! Although I know that Evan and Mallory will be together in the end, it's still frustrating to know that someone is trying to get in their way. Not just the third party but the family as well!
Good Vibrations is definitely a good summer read! Hawaii, hot guys, nice beach and adorable friends all in one!
